"Voices in the Ocean"
Head over to read one of my recent posts under the "Book Reviews" tab to learn more about the book, "Voices in the Ocean" by Susan Casey. What I think I love most about books, is that they truly have the power to influence your personal life experiences and choices. They open you up to new perspectives, passions and a wealth of knowledge. That was absolutely the case with Susan Casey's novel, "Voices in the Ocean." As mentioned in my "Book Reviews" tab, "Voices in the Ocean" uncovers the mysteries of dolphins by reviewing their historical/cultural significance, famous research and studies conducted on/about them, and by speaking with dolphin enthusiasts and researchers from around the world. One such enthusiast, is Joan Ocean. I happened to finish reading this book about two and a half months before my planned trip to the Big Island in Hawaii with my parents. In the book, Casey discovers a deeper love of dolphins after her visit with Joan Ocean and talked about how if you were to ever visit Big Island, you too could have the chance to have an organic dolphin experience! I Immediately dialed my Mom and we reached out to Joan to have her accompany us on a dive with dolphins on a charter boat. Two months later, I found myself in the Pacific free diving with Joan and various pods of dolphins. It was a magical experience that I will never forget, and I credit that to Susan Casey and her book. You never know where a book can take you!
